Commercial Paver Selection

Determining the right type of paver to use for a commercial project is almost as important as choosing your contractor. Paving projects, on the commercial scale, can range from a new pool deck for a hotel to a mall parking lot or roadway. Each type of job has varying specifications regarding the sub-base, compaction, type of base material to be used, the quantity of base needed, and the thickness of the paver, just to name a few.

For most projects a paver with the standard sixty millimeter thickness, or two and three eighths of an inch, will do. Across the country, pavers that are this thick are normally referred to as "thick pavers." They can be used in all residential construction areas and in most commercial jobs as well. You should consider using a larger product when the area(s) to be paved will endure heavy, continuous, vehicular traffic. This isn't your driveway or parking area, but a roadway, or entry to a mall or neighborhood. Thicker pavers generally jump from the standard sixty millimeter to an eighty millimeter, or three and one eighths of an inch, size. Choosing this size of a product can be costly. Typically, manufacturers charge up to a thirty percent premium for pavers this large. Even in high volume production runs, eighty millimeter pavers are relatively expensive, but sometimes, necessary.

A qualified paving contractor with experience installing large scale, high square footage jobs, is your best resource. In most cases, paving contractors install residential and commercial projects ranging from small patios to large driveways and parking lots. Regardless of the size, each project has its inherent challenges. The right company will treat you the same, no matter if you have a four hundred square foot area or a forty thousand square foot project.

If you have any questions or would like to get an estimate contact a licensed and insured commercial pavers contractor and they can help you.
